On the evening of Friday 1st June, Bairds Malt experienced a fire in one of the kilns at its maltings site on Springfield Road, Grantham.

All personnel on-site were accounted for immediately the fire was discovered and there were no injuries. The fire brigade responded very quickly to the emergency call.

The fire brigade managed to extinguish a fire in one of the kilns on-site quickly and contain the impact to localised kiln damage and the loss of 25 tonnes of product that was in process at the time within the effected kiln.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire but at this time we can say that damage is limited to a single kilning vessel and the site will continue with malt production across the remaining kilning units on-site thus we do not envisage any significant business interruptions as a result of this incident.

There will be no adverse impact to our customer malt supplies which will continue to be shipped on time and to our customer specifications with the support of our Witham malting site, as required, to ensure that our customer delivery schedules are fully covered over the period that our Grantham site is operating at the reduced malt production capacity.

Bairds Malt would like to thank the fire service for their timely attendance to site and their efforts in effectively fighting the fire which limited the damage to our plant.
