Released in 1985 as part of the United States Department of Agriculture’s hop breeding programme, Chinook is part English Pentham Golding and part high-alpha wild hop from Utah. Giving a clean bitterness its aromatic profile contains both pine and grapefruit, though it can be ‘catty’ if overused. Orders will be fulfilled from featured Hopunion Growers Carpenter Ranches LLC and Van Horn Farms.

Suitable for: US-style Pale Ale, IPA, Stout, Porter, Lager.
Substitutes: Nugget, Columbus and Northern Brewer.
Disease: Susceptible to hop mosaic virus, resistant to DM and VW.
Alpha: 11.5 - 15%
Beta: 3 - 4%
Co-H: 27 - 31% of alpha acids
Total Oil: 1 - 2.5 mL/100g
Aroma: Specific aroma descriptors include grapefruit, spice, and pine.
