This is the hop that launched 1000 beers and brought American hops to the attention of brewers worldwide. Developed as the first aroma variety of the Oregon State University's breeding programme in 1972 from a Fuggles and a Russian Serebrianka, Cascade does different things if used differently. High mycene and high farnesne levels, plus a 1:1 alpha:beta ratio, mean that this is going to be a hop of complex character with considerable intensity of aroma, capable of giving both lychee and floral, citrus and grapefruit aromas.

Suitable for: US-style Ales, IPA, Porter & Barley wines, Witbier.

Substitutes: Amarillo, Centennial.

Disease: Resistant to PM, DM, susceptible to aphids and spider mites.
