Bred at Wye College in order to broaden the range of UK high alpha varieties, Admiral has been available since 1998. The offspring of Challenger and Northdown it is a useful bittering hop with a woody, herbal hop character lacking the harsh notes of Target, for which it is an acceptable substitute.

Suitable for: Ales

Substitutes: Target, Northdown, Challenger.

Disease: Susceptible to PM, resistant to DM.

Alpha: 13 - 16%
Beta: 4 - 6%
Co-H: 37 - 45% of alpha acids
Total Oil: 1 - 1.7 mL/100g
 
Aroma: Specific aroma descriptors include pleasant, resinous hop aroma with hints of citrus (orange) and herbal flavours.
